Any individual or property owner who desires to have a sewage disposal (septic) system installed on their property or requiring repair to an existing system must get a Septic System Construction Permit.

The application of sewage sludge to land returns essential nutrients to the soil, adds organic matter, and can improve the tillabilty and moisture retention capability of the soil. A sewage sludge utilization permit is required by the Maryland Department of Environment for any person who treats, composts, transports, stores, distributes, applies to land, incinerates, conducts innovative or research projects or disposes of sewage sludge or septage (effluent from septic tanks) in Maryland. Sewage sludge (also known as biosolids) is not sewage. It is one of the final products of the treatment of sewage at a wastewater treatment plant. After treatment to break down the organic matter and destroy disease causing organisms, the remaining fine particles ultimately become sewage sludge.

Any hauler who picks up or drops off Special Medical Waste in Maryland must be certified as a MD Hauler and each vehicle must be certified.

The program reviews and approves plans to control stormwater, prevent soil loss, and protect waterways, helping maintain natural hydrologic conditions and comply with Maryland environmental regulations.

All individuals conducting blasting on surface coal mining operations are required to obtain a blasters certification. Additionally, all blasters must also be licensed by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office. A certification must be renewed every three (3) years.

The Voluntary Cleanup Program is designed to facilitate the cleanup and redevelopment of eligible properties that may be contaminated with hazardous substances or oil. The application process involves submitting detailed information about the property, its environmental conditions, and the applicants interest in the property.

Construction permit for major water and sewer projects

This permit is required for any activity that withdraws water from the State's surface water and/or groundwater, unless exempted.
